Traditional Mexican Food In the Heart of Old Town San Diego

Cafe Coyote Tortilla Ladies

For over 20 years Café Coyote has remained one of San Diego’s Landmark Restaurants located in the Heart of Old Town San Diego’s Historic Walking District. “The Birthplace of California”

Our staff, loyal patrons, delicious Mexican Food, and a Festive Atmosphere have contributed to our being Voted Best Mexican Restaurant 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 & 2010.

We know that so much of our success comes from our authenticity.

This includes our certified “Tequila House”  with over 120 tequila options, our strolling mariachi, and of course our traditional Mexican cuisine.

To make our food authentic we focus on the basics. For example, our tortillas are made fresh daily the traditional way, “ a mano” (by hand.)

Our tortilla ladies make about 1,500 tortillas per day! This means 546,000 tortillas PER YEAR! Our tortilla ladies have been making delicious hand-made tortillas for our burritos, tacos, quesadillas and to accompany our fresh and traditional dishes for over 21 years! To date, our tortilla ladies have made over 11.5 million tortillas enjoyed by millions of guests!

Stop by the Café Coyote Cantina and get your hands on some hand-made tortillas, available fresh and straight off the griddle on San Diego Avenue or as a key ingredient to most of our delicious food.
