National Margarita Day

Believe it or not, Tuesday, February 22 is National Margarita Day. The Margarita is currently America’s most popular cocktail and we have set aside a special day to celebrate this holiday with family and friends.

There are many individuals and bars that credit themselves with the invention of this popular drink.  It is said that the Margarita was invented sometime in the mid 1940’s. One story states that a famous Texas socialite named Margaret Sames served it for her guest at her Acapulco Hacienda. She mixed Tequila, Cointreau and limejuice. This refreshing drink was the talk of the night and quickly became popular. Another claims that the Margarita was first created by Danny Herrera from Tijuana. He invented it for a beginning actress, Marjorie King who was only accustomed to drink tequila and Cointreau. It is evident that the creation of this drink created a tequila boom that is being heard throughout the world.

No need to wait for Cinco de Mayo to celebrate Mexico, tequila and Margaritas. You can get an early start this coming Tuesday. At Café Coyote we celebrate Mexico every day!
